In a major relief to daily commuters across the country, petrol prices will remain unchanged for the upcoming fortnight. However, commercial transport operators and industrial consumers face fresh cost pressures as the government has approved a price hike of Rs2.29 per liter for High-Speed Diesel (HSD).
The federal adjustment comes as part of the standard bi-weekly fuel pricing review, which balances international market dynamics with local fiscal considerations. By absorbing inflationary pressure on petrol, authorities aimed to cushion public transport users and personal vehicle owners from immediate price shocks. Conversely, the upward revision in diesel rates reflects recent shifts in refined petroleum imports and regional supply chain costs.
High-Speed Diesel serves as the primary fuel source for heavy freight transport, agricultural machinery, and public buses. Market analysts note that while keeping petrol rates static offers immediate stability for retail consumers, the incremental rise in diesel pricing may gradually push up freight transportation overheads and agricultural production costs over the coming weeks.
