Atlanta — Saudi Arabia and the United States have signed an agreement formalising Washington’s participation in Expo 2030 Riyadh, following talks between their foreign ministers on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss bilateral relations, opportunities to expand cooperation and regional developments.
The discussions focused on the strategic partnership between Riyadh and Washington, with both officials reviewing ways to strengthen collaboration in areas identified as priorities by the two countries. They also exchanged perspectives on regional challenges and ongoing efforts to address issues affecting the Middle East.
Following their meeting, the two sides signed the official participation contract confirming the United States as a participant in Expo 2030 Riyadh.
The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the United States as preparations advance for the international exhibition. It is intended to facilitate coordination between the two sides and provide a basis for developing the American participation arrangements.
Saudi Arabia described the agreement as reflecting Expo 2030 Riyadh’s emphasis on international cooperation and partnerships with participating countries. The involvement of the United States also represents a development in the exhibition’s efforts to attract international participation.
Saudi Ambassador to the United States Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan attended the meeting and the related discussions.
Expo 2030 Riyadh is expected to bring together countries and organisations from around the world to present developments in technology, culture, innovation, sustainability and other areas of international interest. Hosting the event forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to strengthen its global engagement and showcase its economic and development priorities.
The signing of the participation contract comes as Saudi Arabia continues preparations for the exhibition through diplomatic engagement and cooperation with prospective participants. Formal agreements provide a foundation for countries to coordinate their involvement and plan their contributions to the event.
The meeting in Atlanta also highlighted the broader diplomatic relationship between Saudi Arabia and the United States. Beyond the exhibition agreement, the discussions addressed strategic cooperation and regional issues, although the official announcement did not disclose specific new initiatives or commitments in those areas.
The latest agreement marks a step in the preparations for Expo 2030 Riyadh while providing an additional platform for engagement between the two countries.
