Organised by the Saudi Archery Federation, the competition runs from October 22 to 24 as part of the Kingdom’s efforts to strengthen the sport, improve athletes’ technical performance and widen participation across different age groups and categories.
The championship has attracted competitors seeking top positions across the programme, with proceedings overseen by a 10-member refereeing team. The event is designed to encourage stronger competition among clubs while providing archers with an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a structured sporting environment.
Competition covers 40 categories
The tournament features 40 competitive categories, with 120 medals available across the events. The participation of both male and female archers reflects the federation’s broader efforts to expand opportunities for athletes and develop the sport across the Kingdom.
Representatives from more than seven clubs are taking part, creating a platform for competitors to test their abilities against archers from different training environments.
The refereeing team is responsible for overseeing the competition and ensuring that events are conducted according to the applicable rules. Officials play an important role in maintaining fair competition and supporting the smooth running of multi-category tournaments.
Beyond the medal race, regional championships provide athletes with opportunities to gain competitive experience, assess their performance and identify areas for improvement. They also allow clubs to evaluate their training programmes and encourage the development of emerging talent.
Final regional championship of the season
The Eastern Championship is the final event in the regional championships series for the 2026–2027 sports season, following competitions held in several regions of Saudi Arabia.
The series forms part of the Saudi Archery Federation’s wider programme to establish regular competitive opportunities throughout the country. By holding events across multiple regions, the federation aims to reach a broader pool of participants and strengthen the foundations of the sport.
The final regional competition brings the series to a close while giving participating archers another opportunity to compete for honours during the season. However, the announcement did not specify whether results from the regional events would determine qualification for any subsequent national championship.
Developing Saudi archery talent
The federation’s regional programme is intended to support the long-term growth of archery by expanding participation, identifying promising athletes and improving competitors’ readiness for future events.
Regular tournaments help archers gain experience under competitive conditions, while organised events can encourage clubs to invest in coaching, technical preparation and athlete development.
The inclusion of a broad range of categories also creates opportunities for competitors with different levels of experience to participate in organised archery. This can help strengthen the sport’s reach and build a wider base of athletes for future competitions.
The Eastern Championship forms part of a nationwide effort to make archery more accessible and strengthen the competitive structure surrounding the sport in Saudi Arabia.
As the tournament continues through October 24, competitors will seek medals across the scheduled categories. The event’s outcomes will contribute to the wider regional championship programme and provide further opportunities to assess the progress of Saudi archery during the 2026–2027 season.
