Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy and Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between their ministries to promote sports tourism and maximize the use of Egypt’s sports and youth facilities.
The two ministers reviewed opportunities to capitalize on Egypt’s modern sports infrastructure and tourism destinations to attract international sporting events, training camps and championships, in line with the country’s sustainable development strategy.
They agreed to establish a joint working group to coordinate implementation mechanisms and study launching Sharm El-Sheikh as a pilot project for integrating sports and tourism services before expanding the model to other tourist destinations.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of offering an integrated sports tourism experience that combines sporting activities with visits to archaeological and tourist attractions, as well as other recreational activities, to enhance Egypt’s competitiveness as a leading sports tourism destination.
