From the State of Kuwait, Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Fuad Hussein announced on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, that the competent Kuwaiti authorities had approved the release of the Iraqi fishermen who were detained last week by the Kuwaiti Coast Guard.
The Minister stated that the fishermen are expected to arrive in Basra Governorate on Thursday, accompanied by the Governor of Basra, after the completion of the procedures related to their release.
This development comes in response to the request submitted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the accompanying Iraqi delegation to H.E. Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the State of Kuwait, during the Iraqi delegation’s official visit to Kuwait.
H.E. Fuad Hussein expressed his appreciation to the Kuwaiti authorities for their prompt response and constructive cooperation, emphasizing that this initiative reflects the deep fraternal ties between the Republic of Iraq and the State of Kuwait, as well as the shared commitment of both countries to addressing issues of mutual concern in a spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding.
