The latest incidents at sea have affected the important Gulf passage, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announcing that two more oil ships caught fire after hitting mines underwater. Latest incidents took place as the vessels tried to maneuver through restricted channels in the important maritime trade route.
As per the information provided by the military through state-run broadcasting stations, the ships were navigating without any tracking or identification devices when they hit the mines. One ship had problems as it was navigating to the east of the international trade route, while another ship had its problem inside the central part of the trade route.
These events follow a similar series of maritime accidents reported a day prior, during which five oil transport ships and a towing vessel reportedly caught fire under comparable conditions. Despite the official statements released by Iranian authorities, independent regional shipping monitors and international maritime agencies have not yet verified or commented on the reported incidents.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a foundational artery for international commerce and global energy supplies, historically handling approximately one-fifth of worldwide petroleum consumption. Since the outbreak of the ongoing regional conflict late last month, Tehran has actively attempted to restrict navigation through the vital chokepoint. In response to these transit curbs, Washington instituted strict commercial blockades against Iranian port facilities and deployed naval assets to safeguard allied tankers transiting the area.
United States Central Command authorities reported that naval protection operations have successfully facilitated the export of over one point five billion barrels of petroleum from Gulf states through the channel over recent months. American military spokespersons previously stated that all recorded marine mines had been completely cleared from the main thoroughfare. However, the latest announcements from the Revolutionary Guards underscore the persisting dangers facing commercial shipping in one of the world’s most sensitive economic corridors, heightening anxiety among global energy markets and regional trade analysts who continue to monitor the situation closely.
