ABU DHABI — Emirati law enforcement authorities have successfully dismantled a major international drug smuggling network, arresting 20 suspects of various nationalities and seizing large quantities of illicit narcotics. According to official statements carried by the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the joint security operation intercepted 200,000 Captagon pills alongside more than 30 kilograms of mixed narcotics attempt to enter the country through a border entry zone in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
The high-profile interdiction highlights the United Arab Emirates’ heightened security posture and cross-border intelligence integration designed to combat transnational organized crime. By neutralizing the multi-member criminal network before the illicit substances entered domestic distribution channels, federal anti-narcotics agencies prevented a widespread attempt to traffic controlled substances across local communities.
The security operation commenced following critical intelligence sharing between security agencies in the UAE and the Republic of Iraq, which alerted authorities to a complex plan by a multinational syndicate targeting the country. Law enforcement officials identified a diverse network of 20 defendants comprising nationals from several Gulf states, Arab countries, African nations, and Asian territories operating in coordination to facilitate the smuggling attempt.
Following the cross-border intelligence exchange, the UAE National Anti-Narcotics Agency, working alongside specialized regional units, executed a coordinated operational plan. Law enforcement teams caught key members of the cartel red-handed at the border site while transporting the contraband, which included Captagon tablets, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, hashish, and synthetic cannabinoids (spice). Subsequent targeted ambushes conducted by security squads across domestic jurisdictions led to the apprehension of all remaining network members.
Emirati anti-narcotics authorities reiterated that the successful interception demonstrates the advanced readiness, tactical surveillance capabilities, and investigative sophistication of the nation’s intelligence matrix. Security agencies emphasized that the UAE maintains zero tolerance for transnational trafficking operations, reaffirming commitment to expanding international security partnerships to dismantle organized criminal enterprises targeting regional stability.
