Riyadh — Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz has held a telephone conversation with South Korea’s newly appointed Minister of National Defense, Kang Shin-chul, to discuss bilateral defence relations and regional security developments.
During the call, Prince Khalid congratulated Kang on assuming his new ministerial responsibilities and wished him success in his position.
The two ministers reviewed opportunities to strengthen defence cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Korea, reflecting the continued engagement between the two countries in military and security affairs.
Their discussions also covered developments across the region and the importance of supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability. Both sides stressed the need for continued international efforts to prevent escalation and contribute to peaceful outcomes in regional and global affairs.
The ministers also condemned attacks carried out by the Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia, describing them as terrorist attacks. Their remarks highlighted shared concerns over threats to the Kingdom’s security and the wider stability of the region.
Saudi Arabia and South Korea maintain cooperation across several strategic sectors, including defence, technology, energy and industrial development. Defence engagement forms part of their broader bilateral relationship, with both countries seeking opportunities to expand coordination and strengthen institutional ties.
The latest telephone discussion provides another channel for communication between the two defence establishments following Kang’s appointment. It also reflects the importance both governments place on maintaining dialogue over regional developments and security priorities.
Although the official announcement did not disclose specific new defence agreements or military projects, the conversation reaffirmed the two sides’ interest in developing cooperation and supporting initiatives that contribute to regional and international peace.
